The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are expected to be discounted ahead of the launch of their successors — iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus. The price cuts would likely extend to the even older iPhone 5S. Apple has scheduled a press meet for 9 September, at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, when it is expected to launch the new phones, besides other products.
According to a 9to5Mac report, prices of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus could be cut by as much as $100 in the US. These smartphones and the iPhone 5S (released in 2013) would be the only iPhones the tech powerhouse will continue to sell post the launch of the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus.
Currently the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are sold at $199 (£130) and $299 (£140), respectively, in the US. It is not known if the speculated $100 price reduction will be applicable to carrier-driven iPhone 6/iPhone 6 Plus variants, or to SIM-free versions.
iPhone fans in emerging economies could benefit from the price reduction. In India, the iPhone 6 is currently priced at INR 50,000 (£492, $756), and could find new buyers at a lower price point.
