U.N SECRETARY-GENERAL, BAN KI-MOON PLEADS FOR UNCONDITIONAL RELEASE OF CHIBOK GIRLS

ban ki and buhari

Visiting United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-Moon, on Monday made a passionate appeal for the release of over 200 Chibok schoolgirls, who were abducted in April 2014 by Boko Haram militants.

Mr. Ki-Moon pleaded for the unconditional release of the girls and other abductees of the Boko Haram.

He was speaking in Abuja after a private meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, as part of activities scheduled for his two-day official visit to Nigeria.

The visit of the UN top official coincides with the week the “Bring Back Our Girls” protesters led by the former World Bank Vice President, Oby Ezekwesili, are preparing to commemorate the 500th day since the girls disappeared.

Mr. Ki-Moon commended President Muhammadu Buhari for what he described as embarking on an agenda for change and prioritising security and anti-corruption war.

He pledged UN’s support for President Buhari’s reforms, saying when change occurs in Nigeria, there will be change in Africa.

Mr. Buhari thanked Mr. Ki-Moon for inviting him to attend the UN General Assembly scheduled for New York on September 27 and 28 this year.
